Learning Health System at Academic Health Centers

Building consensus on a definition of the learning health system (LHS) for academic health centers and related questions leaders should be asking to implement and sustain an LHS.

The Association of Academic Health Center’s President’s Council on the Learning Health System is requesting your input  to build consensus around a definition of a learning health system and to receive feedback on seven (7) questions that leaders should be asking their executive team.

Working Definition

Proposal Status: 
Does the following definition resonate with you? A learning health system (LHS) is: A healthcare system in which clinical and care-related data are systematically integrated to catalyze discovery and implementation of new knowledge that benefits patients and the organization through improved outcomes.

How do we demonstrate to our community and stakeholders that the learning health system adds value to the care we provide and the community that we serve?

How do we maintain our patients’ trust for the use of their data in a variety of settings, which could include research and industry engagement?
