Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics – One Big Idea
Goal
The Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics is soliciting proposals for a "big idea" to develop new or expand existing programs that showcase and advance the department. Crowdsourcing through Open Proposals facilitates further development of ideas.
Eligibility
DEB primary faculty, non-faculty academic and staff employees can submit proposals.
UCSF employees outside of DEB may collaborate but proposals must be led by a DEB employee.
Review Criteria
Ideas will be reviewed based on:
a) the potential impact on the department and its programs
b) the advancement of scholarship
c) the feasibility of success given the time frame and budget.
Proposal Format
There are two phases for proposal submission and review.
Phase 1: 1-2 paragraphs describing the idea and its proposed impact and outcomes.
Phase 2: 1-2 pages expanding on the idea, impact and outcomes, adding general milestones and total budget request.
Timeline
- April 12-May 10 Phase 1 Open Submission and Comment
Submit a description of the idea, a list of participants, and proposed impact and outcomes.
Submissions must be no more than two paragraphs.
All submitters must comment on at least two other ideas or their proposal will not be considered!
- May 14-May 20 Comment Period
Comment period. All submitters need to comment on other submissions.
If a submitter did not comment on at least two other ideas, the proposal wlll not be reviewed.
- DEB Executive Committee Review
- May 30-July 2 Phase 2: Expand Submission
Submit a document that expands on the idea, impact and outcomes adding general milestones, a final list of participants, and budget.
Submissions must be no more than two pages.
All submitters must comment on at least two other submission or their proposals will not be considered!
- July 2-July 15: DEB Comment Period
- July 15-July 25: Executive Committee Review
- July 29: Big Idea(s) Awarded
