UCSF School of Medicine has a goal to develop new learning activities that address UCSF learners’ abilities to handle uncertainties and knowledge gaps in medicine. This proposal directly addresses this goal. There are several, recent articles in NEJM and Academic Medicine, suggesting that handling uncertainty is timely and important for students in medical school right now.

Standardized Patients (SPs) play a unique role in assessing and providing important feedback to health professionals during their training through the lens of a patient rather than a supervisor. This feedback is susceptible to bias (including implicit bias), yet little is reported in the literature on bias training specifically for standardized patients.
