Learning Labs: A Guide to Learn and Grow

Proposal Status:

Many frontline staff would like to advance in their professional journeys, change careers, or hone their expertise in their current jobs but do not know what specific next-level/different skills are needed, where to acquire the needed knowledge, and where to access equipment and workspace.

Furthermore, several frontline staff have paid, on-the-clock idle time due to operational changes in CLS related to COVID-19. These hours need to be filled with meaningful activities.

Untapped

Proposal Status:

UCSF IT and Clinical Systems have limited visibility into the technical and soft skills that currently exist in the workforce. By not having a systematic way to know the full skillset of staff, we miss out on leveraging latent skills, training, certifications, and desired areas of growth when staffing projects.

What Untapped Proposes:

Mission Bay Lab Plastics Recycling

Proposal Status:

Lab waste is the largest bulk of what is left in the garbage for UCSF Campus. In order for UCSF to reach UCOP’s Waste Goals for all UCs, there needs to be a major shift in reduction or recycling of lab waste. Lab plastics are common in all labs and a new vendor has been identified who can recycle lab plastics at a modest cost. The focus is on non-hazardous lab plastics where they can be safely recycled without issue.

FAS Admin Space Optimization

Primary Author: Rebecca Daro
Proposal Status:

This proposal focuses on the space optimization aspect of the existing FAS Telework and Workspace Program (TWP).

Since the COVID-19 pandemic began, approximately 50% of the FAS workforce has been working remotely, and current data indicate that the vast majority of this population would like to continue working remotely most or all of the time, even after March 1, 2022. As a result, FAS administrative workspaces will have an estimated 70% fewer people onsite each day than pre-pandemic, leading to a significant reduction in our space needs.

UCSF Lactation Rooms and EMS Scheduling Screens

Proposal Status:

UCSF provides over 70 dedicated lactation rooms across 13 campuses. Many employees, including most hospital employees, lack their own private and lockable workspaces and therefore need access to lactation rooms. Some campuses have insufficient lactation rooms for the number of employees, which results in wasted time looking for availble private/lockable rooms, and negative return-to-work experiences.

Make Accessibility Available to all UCSF Website Visitors

Proposal Status:

UCSF public-facing websites have accessibility issues. If we don’t provide an exceptional and inclusive customer experience with our public websites, we are not aligned with our PRIDE values and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion initiatives.

Digital accessibility is a civil right of disabled people. We need to ensure that all visitors with a wide spectrum of vision, hearing, cognitive and motor disabilities can access our website content.

Background:

Password Change Self-Service Support

Proposal Status:

IT presents information on password changes on the IT website, provides a self-service password management tool (PWMT), and offers a free password vault (Keeper) to help customers manage passwords. However, PWMT transactions fail 50% of the time, adoption of Keeper is low, and most customers call the IT Service Desk (ITSD) and wait on hold for help. We propose using WalkMe to guide customers through the process, provide a warm handoff from the IT website to the PWMT, help them change their password, and provide information to the ITSD if they fail.
